Pirates of the Caribbean 4? 5? 6?

9/25/2006

China Daily online is reporting that a representative of Disney Studio hinted at the possibility of further films bearing the "Pirates of the Caribbean" title. The report quotes the representative, Mark Zoradi, as saying "the third film...will conclude the initial Pirates trilogy, though it is unlikely to be the last Pirates sequel."

In a related story, the Studio is rumored to be moving ahead with plans for the fourth, fifth and sixth installments in the "Pirates of the Caribbean" saga. Our source tells us that some actors are being offered contracts for the next three films, which have not yet been announced through official channels.

Roundup: Global Disney Park News

PLUS: Meet A Movie Star!

Theme park updates from around the globe:

*Hong Kong Disneyland celebrates its first birthday this month, with somewhat less-than-hoped-for attendance figures. The park is expected to add several significant attractions in an effort to boost its numbers.

*The four theme parks at Florida's Walt Disney World resort are in the process of replacing their biometric finger scanning equipment with fingerprint readers. The equipment links ticket media to users' fingerprints in an attempt to reduce or eliminate fraudulent use of admission tickets.

*EuroDisney SCA has released a statement on the recent discord between management and resort photographers. The statement can be found at this link. (requires Acrobat Reader)

*Tokyo Disneyland Resort's DisneySea park officially opened the third incarnation of the Tower of Terror attraction with surprisingly little fanfare on Monday. The attraction carries both a new design and a new storyline, representing the first departure from the "Twilight Zone" theme used in both the Orlando and Anaheim resorts. Al Lutz's MiceAge (click to visit) has a fairly detailed look at the new attraction.

Speaking of the Tower of Terror, ServiceElevator.com has begun operation. The site is an unofficial tribute to the attraction and will be expanding in the future.

Johnny Depp: Demon Barber Of Fleet Street

9/02/2006

Playbill reports that DreamWorks has given the green light to Tim Burton's production of Stephen Sondheim's Broadway hit Sweeney Todd, to star frequent Burton collaborator Johnny Depp. The film is tentatively slated for a late 2007 release. Curiously, neither Sondheim.com nor Sondheim.org make any mention of the film adaptation.

Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest is set for a December 5 US DVD release (subject to change). Plans also call for the DVD to be released in Europe in time for the Christmas gift-giving season. Bonus features and extra material to be released on the DVD have not been announced.

Watch for European advertising beginning in September featuring Captain Jack and other characters from Disney's films promoting this and other upcoming DVD releases. It is currently not known whether the advertisements will feature new footage or simply reuse existing material, or whether the same advertising will be shown in American media.
