Knightley: The End Of The Age Of Pirates?

11/12/2006

Numerous web sites are reporting that Keira Knightley has stated she would not be participating in any Pirates of the Caribbean films beyond the third film, which is currently completing shooting in anticipation of its May 2007 theatrical release.

This news, while unconfirmed, does fit in with earlier reports that Knightley may want to take a break from the grind of working constantly; however, like all other uncomfirmable celebrity news reports, it should be taken with a large grain of salt, particularly in light of last month's reports that Orlando Bloom's Will Turner character would be killed off in the third film. Those reports were refuted by an e-mail sent to us by a company reportedly employed by Disney to promote the film franchise. The mail stated, in part, "As some of you may have seen, there have been some rumors going around online regarding potential absence of Orlando Bloom in the future Pirates of the Caribbean films. We are working closely with Disney and want you to know that while we cannot comment on specific plot points, such rumors are completely unfounded."

Plot lines and stories for future installments of the Pirates franchise beyond part 3 of the trilogy have not been announced, but one member of the Studio staff has stated "the third film...will conclude the initial Pirates trilogy, though it is unlikely to be the last Pirates sequel." The news staff at Keep To The Code has been informed that some actors from the earlier films have been signed to future Pirates contracts, but we have not received word on any of the principals from the first three films. It seems likely that the third film in the trilogy may indeed be the end of Captain Jack, Will and Elizabeth's story arc.
