Disney/Enesco Presents Pirates Of The Caribbean Sculptures

As reported in this space in July (second item), the Walt Disney Classics Collection has begun a series of sculpture releases based on its "Pirates of the Caribbean" attraction.


"It Be Too Late To Alter Course..." was the first in Disney/Enesco's "Pirates of the Caribbean" sculpture series, debuting in US Disney theme parks in October 2006.

Duckman's Inside Report currently features the next two pieces in the series, "Fire At Will!" and "We Wants The Redhead!"

"Fire At Will!" is tentatively set to be released in spring 2007, with a suggested retail price of US $250. "We Wants The Redhead!" is scheduled for a May 2007 release, with a price of US $299. The pieces will be sold at Disneyland and Walt Disney World and will not be made available through retailers who currently carry the Classics Collection pieces.

And if it's treasure yer' heart be fancying, then venture to the mucky port of Tortuga, where ye' be sure to find the finest pirate treasures in all the land. But beware this port of riches; swabs like you and their treasures have been known to disappear...

"Dead Man's Chest" Oscar-Bound?

Seven Vie for Visual Effects Oscar®


Beverly Hills, CA -- The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences today announced that seven films are in consideration for achievement in Visual Effects for the 79th Academy Awards®.

The films are listed below in alphabetical order:

"Casino Royale"
"Eragon"
"Night at the Museum"
"Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest"
"Poseidon"
"Superman Returns"
"X-Men The Last Stand"

On Wednesday, January 17, the Academy's Visual Effects Award nominating committee will view 15-minute film excerpts from each of the seven shortlisted films. Following the screenings, members will vote to nominate three films for Oscar consideration.

Nominations for the 79th Academy Awards will be announced on Tuesday, January 23, 2007, at 5:30 a.m. PST in the Academy's Samuel Goldwyn Theater.

Academy Awards for outstanding film achievements of 2006 will be presented on Sunday, February 25, 2007, at the Kodak Theatre at Hollywood & Highland Center® and televised live by the ABC Television Network at 5 p.m. PST, beginning with a half-hour arrivals segment.

ed note: Some outlets are reporting in error that "Dead Man's Chest" has been nominated in this category. While we wouldn't be surprised if it does happen, the recent announcement only indicates that the film is being considered as a nominee, and not that it has been nominated as an Oscar contender at this time. Official nominees will be announced in late January 2007.
