Walt Disney World and Conservation International Announce Real-Life Expedition to Himalayas
Expedition Everest Sneak "Peak" & Lucky the Dinosaur Debut
Disney is taking adventure to new limits! Walt Disney Imagineers and scientists are teaming up with Conservation International to go on a real-life expedition. The mission: explore the Himalayan jungles for undiscovered species.
The surprise announcement came today at Disney's Animal Kingdom theme park in Florida as part of the Happiest Celebration On Earth, a global party honoring 50 years of Disney theme park magic. Walt Disney Imagineer Joe Rohde and Disney's Animal Kingdom researcher Dr. Anne Savage believe the expedition team will discover plant and animal life not yet known to science. The team also plans to research the legend of the yeti, the abominable snowman creature revered in Himalayan culture. Walt Disney World and Conservation International have an ongoing partnership at Disney's Animal Kingdom theme park, designed to raise awareness of the world's diverse plant and animal life.
Also at Disney's Animal Kingdom, guests are getting a sneak peek at Expedition Everest, the newest thrill ride coming to Walt Disney World in Florida. The high-speed experience combines coaster-like excitement and a close encounter with the mysterious yeti. Expedition Everest opens in 2006.
Plus, Lucky the Dinosaur is wowing guests at the theme park. Designed by Walt Disney Imagineering, Lucky is the first free-roaming audio-animatronic. Lucky walks, responds to his name and personally interacts with guests.
The Happiest Celebration On Earth launched this week at Disney theme parks around the world and runs for 18 months.
