The Mobile (Alabama) Register reports that the Black Pearl, the faux ship built for the sequels to Disney's "Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl," has set sail on the first leg of its journey to Dominica.

The 130-foot "ship," built on a 96-foot-long steel utility boat, was constructed at Steiner Shipyard in Alabama. Steiner played host earlier this year to the ship built for the film "Mutiny on the Bounty." That vessel left Steiner in March, outfitted for use in the sequels as well.

Warner Brothers will host a promotion for the upcoming Johnny Depp film "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory" based on the contest in Roald Dahl's book of the same title.

One "golden ticket" will be hidden in each of five chocolate bars distributed in the US between May 2005 and April 2006. Those who find one of the tickets will be awarded prizes such as $10,000 (US) in cash or a European vacation.

"Charlie and the Chocolate Factory" opens in the US on July 15.

JimHillMedia.com reports that the 34-year-old Disney Magazine has ceased publication. The summer 2005 issue is the final edition of the much-loved magazine that focused on all things Disney.

Following up on an earlier report (seventh item), the Hollywood Reporter today says that Disney, Sony and Warner Brothers studios have signed a deal with Thomson's Technicolor Digital Cinema unit to assist in facilitating theatres' transition to digital film presentation.

While neither the studios nor TDC would comment on the record, it is believed that the other major film studios will join Disney, Sony and Warner in the future. Fear of running afoul of antitrust regulations had reportedly kept the seven major studios from banding together, although a consortium called DCI had been formed by them in the past to establish standardized technical specifications for digital film technology.
