Author Doug Wright, who won both a Tony award and a Pulitzer prize for "I Am My Own Wife," a one-man play based on the life of German transvestite Charlotte von Mahlsdorf, is writing the book for the Broadway production of Disney's "The Little Mermaid."

"The Little Mermaid" will reportedly join Disney's "The Lion King" and "Beauty and the Beast" on Broadway in 2007.

Francesca Zambello is rumored to be directing the production, with a score by well-known Disney composer Alan Menken. Wright's earlier work includes "Quills," a play later made into a film starring "Pirates of the Caribbean: Curse of the Black Pearl"'s Geoffrey Rush as the Marquis de Sade.

Disney's "Tarzan" is expected to open in the Big Apple in the 2006 theater season, and the hit "Mary Poppins" is expected to be imported to Broadway from London's West End prior to "The Little Mermaid" as well.
