Giant squid - photographed for the first time - rumored to have escaped from Pirates of the Caribbean 2 Set
Earlier this month it was revealed that a team of Japanese researchers had captured the first-ever pictures of a giant squid alive in its natural habitat. The images revealed the Architeuthis or Kraken -- an aggressive hunter capable of ferocious attacks with its 5.5 meter tentacles. Scientists have long known of the giant squid's existence, however, this first glimpse of a living Kraken has set the scientific world abuzz with excitement about the potential for future discoveries about this elusive animal.
What you won't find in any of these reports is information about this animal's origins. The published photos of the squid were taken in the North Pacific Ocean; however, new evidence reveals that this is thousands of miles from the creature's normal habitat in the Caribbean Sea. This rare Caribbean Kraken is actually 2 to 3 times the size of original estimates, nourished by the rich sea life of the warm Caribbean waters.
Numerous sources suggest that that the Kraken may actually have escaped from the Pirates of the Caribbean 2 set. In our investigation on this topic, we were able to contact the film's Giant Squid Wrangler, Barry Skulldrugger, who provided limited information: "All I can say is it's the biggest darn octopus I've ever seen." Skulldrugger claims to have wrangled squid for 20 years, although an Internet Movie Database search revealed no actual credits for Skulldrugger.
Other representatives from the film's production could not be reached for comment.
(ed note: The above submitted article is strictly a parody. Interestingly, however, it is also the first direct confirmation from anyone within the studio of the kraken's appearance in P2, thus landing it within the boundaries of news)
