Pirates Ultimate Fan Event Reports

3/21/2007

Keep To The Code reporters Lady Killigrew and Captain LeQuatte attended the Pirates of the Caribbean Ultimate Fan Event in Hollywood on March 18, and staff member Alexandrite attended the event held in Houston. Following are their reports and photos from this amazing event.

For those of you who have not seen the trailer, we are pleased to make it available at this link.

From Hollywood comes this account:

Pirates fans all over the world have been waiting for it anxiously, and it's finally here; however, a fortunate few had a shorter time to wait. This past Sunday, hundreds of enthusiasts in the US viewed the full trailer for Pirates of the Caribbean 3: At World's End. Scattered through this report are photos of a few hearty souls who were fortunate enough to attend.

The lucky winners of the Pirates of the Caribbean Ultimate Fan Contest were allowed access to a special screening held in major cities across America. Not only were they treated to the trailer, but there was a special viewing of the first Pirates movie (Curse of the Black Pearl), goodies, and in some cases, celebrities.

Several of the KeepToTheCode.com crew attended the LA screening held at the El Capitan theater in Hollywood. A few brave souls even volunteered to have their photos taken. We showed up a full two hours before the event was scheduled to start, yet we were about a hundred people back in line.

Roving about were pirates of all shapes and sizes. The costumes varied from simple bandanna-clad foreheads to full-out historically accurate pirate vestments. There was one thing that everyone had in common, and that was a sense of excitement.

After one chilly hour in line, people were checked-in and handed an official attendee lanyard and a goodie bag. The bag contained a bandanna similar to Jack Sparrow's, and a Pirates of the Caribbean Online kit. The kit held a beta test CD for the game and a numbered piece of Jolly Roger concept art.

Close to 4:30 we were let inside the theater and dashed off to find prime seating. As we waited for the rest of the crowd to get situated, we watched a slide show of official images and behind-the-scenes pictures from At World's End.

The chattering crowd quieted down as the official event speaker came out on stage dressed as Jack Sparrow. He started by trying to wind-up the already excited crowd with promises of prizes in a raffle drawing. He gave away toys, a guitar, a leather jacket, and a few more things. The final prize was to have a winner's name put into an easter egg planned for the next DVD.

After the raffle finished we got a visit from Jack...the monkey. Not only did we get to see the monkey Jack, but the jail-key dog made an appearance.

The two animal stars got a warm welcome, but not nearly as warm as the next film star, Orlando Bloom. Orlando walked out to ear-splitting screams and shouts from fans. He very graciously thanked everyone for supporting the movies and said that he's enjoyed being a part of them. He left the stage to the same thundering roar of cheers and shrieks.

The theater hushed again when the movie began to roll, but the silence didn't last long. Throughout the movie were yells and equally loud reactions to various parts of the movie. (Including shouts of appreciation every time the phrase "keep to the code" was uttered on screen.)

Towards the end of the film you could feel the restlessness of the crowd, jittery with anticipation. They were not to be disappointed.

After the movie finished another film started with Jerry Bruckheimer, Geoffrey Rush and Orlando Bloom introducing the trailer. The trailer played to a completely captivated crowd and finished with more cheering, only to silence the crowd once more with an encore presentation.

I would be amazed if anyone left the theater disappointed. The trailer was cut just right to give you an idea of the next films plot, but without revealing everything.

As for this particular crew, we managed to round up some of our members for a group photo outside of the theater.

We all parted ways, but perhaps we'll meet at the El Capitan again May 25th for something a bit more substantial than a trailer.

And from Houston, Texas, courtesy of Alexandrite:

This lucky pirate attended the Pirates Ultimate Fan Event at the Edwards Grand Palace Cinema in Houston on March 18th. A very small crowd was in attendance, maybe 60 people.

Upon entering we were given a keepsake quality hard plastic admission pass on a lanyard. As we lined up to go into the seating area we were given black ball caps, with the skull and crossed swords on the front and PiratesOnline.com on the rear, in silver. After passing through security we were given Jack Sparrow scarves and a large envelope - black, with Disney Pirates of the Caribbean Online on the front. Inside is a copy of the Beta Test Pass for the online game and a limited edition, numbered framable artwork from the game, as well.

Once comfortably seated in a large stadium seating theater, we were treated to a slide show and previews from Mega Blocks, Zizzle, Master Replicas and the online game.

Next came the showing of The Curse of the Black Pearl, which was fantastic on the big screen. An intermission followed, sponsored by a local Houston radio station and prizes were won by audience members.

Then Orlando Bloom, Jerry Bruckheimer and Geoffrey Rush appeared on the screen. They introduce us to the Trailer for Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End. Four breath-taking minutes later the crowd applauded and the stars appeared again on the screen and they ran the trailer a second time.

The special effects are awesome and Captain Jack is his usual irrepressible self. The World-Wide release of the trailer can be seen Monday Night during ABC's Dancing With The Stars show, and I cannot wait to see the trailer again!!!

As we tumbled out of the theater we were greeted by another line. We all added our names and addresses to a list for free passes to a preview showing of At World's End ! Date and theater location to be announced.

Thank You Disney !!
