Insider Features Depp Film; Richards Out For Third Pirates of the Caribbean?, Disney Shares Up

The current issue of Disney Insider features a look at Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest including commentary by co-writer and friend of Keep To The Code Terry Rossio.

It's been a long three years, but on July 7 Captain Jack Sparrow and crew will be back, with dastardly new villains, a heart-thumping new quest, and a full shipload of familiar faces. "Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest" reunites Jack (Johnny Depp), Will Turner (Orlando Bloom), and Elizabeth Swann (Keira Knightley) in a quest that will bring them face-to-face with a terrifying new menace in the person of Davy Jones (Bill Nighy) -- and reunite Will with his long-lost father, Bootstrap Bill (Stellan Skarsgard).

The latest in the on-again off-again saga of Keith Richards as Johnny Depp's father in the third Pirates of the Caribbean film has the Rolling Stones guitarist in the "off-again" column.

Richards has reportedly undergone surgery to remove a blood clot in his brain resulting from a recent fall. It is unclear what effect his recovery may have on his ability to play the father of Jack Sparrow, and a studio spokesman reportedly commented "the casting of the film is yet to be finalized."

The Walt Disney Company has released its second quarter financial results, showing higher than anticipated earnings per share. The company announced a per share return of .31, up 19% over the same quarter in 2005.

Overall revenues increased in the media networks and theme parks and resorts, while the studio entertainment and consumer products revenues saw a decrease. With Cars opening in the third quarter and Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest opening in the first week of the fourth quarter of 2006, the studio entertainment division is expected to rebound.
